History
Sekolah Tinggi Ilmu Ekonomi Gentiaras (STIE Gentiaras) is a higher education institution originally named Binusla College of Economics (STIE Binusla). Its operational license is based on the Decree of the Minister of National Education No. 78/D/0/2000 dated June 9, 2000, signed by the Director General of Higher Education, Satriyo Soemantri Brojonegoro. At that time, STIE Binusla was located at Jalan Katamso No. 39-41, Bandar Lampung, and operated under the auspices of the Bina Bangsa Indonesia Foundation (YBBI), as established by Notary Deed Cahaya Hairani Djausal Zubaidi, S.H. Number 3, dated October 3, 1997.
History and Name Change
On August 16, 2002, the Bina Bangsa Indonesia Foundation (YBBI) and STIE Binusla were handed over to the Diocese of Tanjungkarang, though its management was fully entrusted to the laity. The foundation's name was changed to the Bina Bangsa Indonesia (Gentiaras) Foundation, as recorded in the Notary Deed of Lianawati Tjendra, S.H. Number 24, dated May 23, 2003. Concurrently, the name STIE Binusla was changed to STIE Gentiaras. This name change was formalized by the Decree of the Minister of National Education Number 08/D/0/2006. The name Gentiaras is derived from Latin, specifically from the root word gentilis (base word: gent) which means "nation," and arare which means "to cultivate" or "to build." Therefore, Gentiaras means building the children of the nation. This aligns seamlessly with the goal of Indonesian national education, which is to educate and enrich the life of the nation.
